N54 6MT Transmission Fluid Change

***Always safely support your vehicle before working underneath it***

I replaced the OEM Transmission Drain plug with a magnetic drain plug

Thanks to DanielZio for letting me use his AMSOIL Bottle Hand Pump!

Tools Needed:
-8mm Socket
-8mm Hex Bit
-Torque Wrench
-Car jack & jack stands and/or Ramps
-OEM or Magnetic Transmission Drain Plug
-2 Liters of MT Fluid - I used Redline MT90, changing gears feels buttery smooth now!
-Something to transfer the Transmission Fluid from its container to the Transmission -  I used a AMSOIL Bottle Hand Pump
-A pan to catch the draining fluid
-Shop Towels to clean up any spillage

1. Jack up the car safely or drive onto ramps

2. Remove splash shield using 8mm socket wrench. Once all 8mm screws are removed, turn the entire panel to clear the catch and remove.

3. Use 8mm Hex Bit to remove Filler Plug first! You don't want to drain the fluid out and then not be able to open the filler plug. Once filler plug is removed, place catch pan underneath drain plug and remove drain plug.

4. Once all fluid is drained, install drain plug and torque to spec - 35 Nm / 26 ft lbs

5. Use hand pump to fill transmission will fluid. Keep filling until fluid overflows out of filler hole. It should take about 1.6-1.8 L

6. Install Filler Plug and torque to spec - 35 Nm / 26 ft lbs

7. Install splash shield - and you're done. Simple as that  :)

Was there a significant change in the feel of your shifts?

Actually yes! Quite a bit different, in a good way. Felt very notchy before and much smoother now. I'd recommend doing this but it would probably be a good idea to switch to a thinner fluid for winter time

rob would this diy also be a good starting point to change trans output shaft and shift rod seal?

I haven't done any trans seals in a vehicle before but I would think that it would be substantially more work. I'll look into it for you though :)
